COD Football Player Stabbed, Another Player Arrested

Jaime Smith, 19, is accused of stabbing another player during an argument.

An argument between two College of the Desert football players over allegedly stolen property prompted a stabbing and led to the arrest of a suspect in Palm Desert, sheriff's officials said today.

Jaime Smith, 19, was booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon but no record of him could be found today at the sheriff’s inmate Website.

According to sheriff’s officials, the suspect and the alleged victim had gotten into an argument.

"The suspect stole from the victim's apartment," said sheriff's Deputy Angel Ramos.

The victim learned who the culprit was and confronted the suspect, according to Ramos.

A football player roster indicated Smith transferred from North Carolina A&T and is a red-shirt freshman Free Safety.

The initial argument escalated and the other man – also 19 – was stabbed multiple times, according to sheriff's officials.

The attack took place about 9:15 p.m. Thursday at an apartment complex in the 77-700 block of Country Club Drive, Ramos said.

The student was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the sergeant said.

Arraignment and bail information was not immediately available for the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s investigators at 760-836-1600 or Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.

Taja clearly he is not ok. Having to get multiple surgery; having a machine help him breath and depending on his medication sounds pretty bad to me. By the way the doctors didn't release any information to you or anyone besides his family so the press and everyone don't know what's going on.
