UPDATE: Election 2012: Romney Takes California; Prop 29 Narrowly Falls

Mitt Romney was a landslide winner in California, but controversial Proposition 29 is defeated by less than one pecent.

Proposition 28:  The measure that would lower term limits for State Assemblypersons and Senators from 14 years to 12 years passed in Riverside County and at the state level.  Statewide, Prop 28 gathered 61.4% of the vote, while in Riverside County, 60.6% approved of the proposition. 

Proposition 29: The Proposition that would add a $1 a pack surcharge to cigarettes was narrowly turned down by voters, with a 50.8% "no" vote.  The diference was just over 63,000 votes our of the near 4 million vallots cast statewide. Like Proposition 28, the no vote was 60.6%.

Republican Presidential Primary:  Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was far and away the winner in Riverside County and across the state.    The soon-to-be GOP Presidential nominee 79.6% of the Republican vote statewide and 81.5% in Riverside County.  Former Libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul was second with 8.5% of the statewide vote. 

36th Congressional District:  Incumbent Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) and challenger Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella) were the only names on the ballot, so both automatically advance to the November General Election.   In what is considered a formal poll, Bono Mack pulled over 58% of the vote.

42nd Assembly District:  In another vote that is a gauge for November, incumbent Brian Nestande (R-Palm Desert) took just over 60% of the vote, outdistancing challenger Mark Orozco (R-Beaumont).  The two will also meet again on the November ballot.
