Free Events: 2013 Polo Season Gets Started in Coachella Valley

The two major polo clubs in Indio are both inviting the public out to watch games for free this weekend.

Two Coachella Valley polo clubs start their 2013 seasons this weekend, and they're inviting you to join in the festivities free of charge.

Empire Polo Club in Indio kicked off the season with "Polo Under the Lights" Friday, and opening day is this Sunday, Jan. 6, at noon. Games are open to the public and general admission is free, according to the club's website.

There is a game scheduled for 12 p.m., and another at 2 p.m.

What's more-- it's "hat day" at the polo club, so if you're planning on going, get out that favorite headpiece of yours and show it off!

Eldorado Polo Club in Indio will also hold its opening day at noon Sunday, with a biplane display and a show-jumping demonstration. The event is also open to the public, according to the club's website.

Both clubs also tout "free tailgating" at the events.

Empire is at 81-800 Avenue 51 in Indio; Eldorado is at 50-950 Madison St. in Indio.
