Home Sales Up In September

The sale of existing homes, condo and new home sales saw a 9.4 percent jump in September over the same period last year, according to Data Quick Information Systems.

Coachella Valley homes sales saw a 9.4 percent jump in September over last year, according to a realty tracking firm.

Sales of existing homes in nine Coachella Valley cities, including Palm Desert, and the unincorporated community of Bermuda Dunes totaled 550, up from 545 a year ago, according to Data Quick Information Systems.

Sales were down slightly for condominiums. They totaled 133 in September, down from 144 last year.

“We’re seeing homes in the lower price range selling better,” said Greg Berkemer, executive vice president of the California Desert Association of REALTORS®.  “The housing market downturn began on lower priced homes and those homes are selling first in the recovery.”

The average price for a single family home in September was $175,000, a drop from $195,000 in September 2010.

The number of sales of foreclosed homes also dropped to 50 percent, down from 62 percent last year.
