Local Shelters Report Increase in Cat Adoptions
Cats adopted at nearly triple 2010 rates, special lowered adoption fees now added for dogs.
Cats were adopted from Riverside County Animal Services’ shelters in August at a rate nearly three times higher as the same month in 2010.
Figures released today show 425 cats were adopted from the three county shelters in August 2011, compared with 165 a year earlier.
County Animal Services Director Robert Miller says the increase is partially due to the county’s “Five-Dollar Fuzz Ball” promotion, where cat adoption fees were lowered in August.

The county also announced the addition of a “Forty-Dollar Fido” program, with the $40 canine adoption fee covering vaccinations, spay or neutering surgery, and an identity microchip.
Dog adoptions were down over 10% in August, when compared to 2010.
