Man Accused Of Shooting TV Has History of Drugs, Domestic Abuse

Daniel Brockman, 43, has taken several plea deals over the past year in three cases of violating a protective court order and a misdemeanor drug case.

A man accused of firing a weapon as deputies surrounded his home, striking a television set, has a history of violating a court order to prevent domestic violence, court records show.

Daniel Brockman, who goes by "Dan," was arrested Friday, Jan. 13 at his family's home in the 73900 block of Rancho Road, near Civic Center Park, according to Sgt. Brad Farwell of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Brockman, 43, is accused of making threats toward his family, prompting deputies to respond to the home and set up a perimeter, Farrell said.

While surrounding the home, deputies heard a gunshot from inside the residence, and burst inside, taking Brockman into custody, the sergeant said.

Investigators discovered that Brockman had access to several firearms inside the home and had fired one round of ammunition through his television set, according to Farwell.

This was not the first time Brockman has been arrested at the Rancho Road home. He alleged forced his way into the woman's home with a gun in August, .

He was arrested following a brief struggle and the help of a police dog, according to the sheriff's department.

That case was dismissed days later as part of a plea deal. As part of the deal, Brockman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of disobeying a court order stemming from a March 2011 incident. He was sentenced to nine days in jail, but he was released from custody for time served, court records show.

He was also accused of violating a restraining order in 2008.

In that case, a misdemeanor charge of violating a court order to prevent domestic violence was dismissed in January 2011 as part of a plea deal.

Brockman, who had an outstanding warrant for a 2005 drug case, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance and he was sentenced to six days in jail, according to court records.
