No Cussing Challenge To Go Online

Students in the club say it is not the most popular club, but they are hopeful for a cleaner campus as part of Cuss Free Week from March 5-9.

Nearly a dozen Palm Desert High School students gathered in a classroom after school Tuesday, to work on a video aimed at challenging the world to be cuss free.

The "No Cussing Club," which boasts about 30 students, plans to release the video on Friday on YouTube, with the hope that it will reach students and people across the globe, according to teacher Ossil Macavinta.

Amanda Biggs, 17, of Palm Desert said she joined the club last year with the hope to change her high school campus.

"There's not any club like this (at PDHS) and I just wanted to maybe change things on campus. There is so much cussing that goes on even in the classrooms and I know the teachers don't like it," Biggs said. "I was hoping to make a positive impact on campus."

She added that her friends are mostly supportive of the effort to make Palm Desert High School a .

"Around school it's not the most popular club to be in," Biggs said.

Madelyn Brown, 17, of Rancho Mirage, who joined the club with Biggs, said that she hopes the video will make a difference.

"I hoping it will at least start a thought in people's mind. I'm not sure people will stop cold turkey, but they will at least be a little more aware of what they are saying," Brown said.

Around campus, the club will put out "Cussing Jars" and all funds collected will be donated to Martha's Village & Kitchen.
