Rainy Day Special Offers Discounts For Pet Adoptions

The special will be honored at the county's desert shelter in Thousand Palms, at 72-050 Pet Land Place, even if the area only experiences a drop or two of rain.

It is going to be raining cats and dogs at Riverside County Animal Services, as the county expects a double dose of precipitation Tuesday.

Anyone coming to a county shelter can adopt a new four-legged friend at a discounted rate as long as they remember to say the phrase, "Boy it's raining cats and dogs!"

Dog adoptions are normally $105, so the $20 fee is a pretty deep discount, Animal Services director Robert Miller said.

Cat adoption fees are already at a budget friendly $15, and that price will be the same during the “rainy-day” special promotion.

The "rainy day" special will continue throughout the year, as long as it rains on the actual day of the adoption in Riverside County.

The special will be honored at the county’s desert shelter in Thousand Palms, at 72-050 Pet Land Place, even if the area only experiences a drop or two of rain.

"We always tend to experience low attendance at our shelters during bad-weather days," Miller said. "This was one way to generate, we can only hope, a few more adoptions that we normally wouldn’t get.”

The $20 dog adoptions and $15 cat adoptions also include a microchip and the pet’s vaccinations and spay or neuter surgery.

A $16 dog license fee for unincorporated areas of Riverside County is not included.
