Because sometimes bicyclists and cars just don't mix.
Thousands of cyclists will descend on the Coachella Valley Saturday, meaning motorists will have the share some roadways.
Part of the ride's 100-mile route, which begins from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Saturday, winds through Palm Desert. On the 80th mile, the riders will take El Dorado Drive to Country Club Drive to Portola Avenue to Gerald Ford Drive to Monterey Avenue, according to the event's website.
During the 56-mile ride, cyclists will take Washington Street to Country Club Drive to Tamarisk Row Drive. Riders will begin that ride from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
The route maps are attached to this article above.
Tour de Palm Springs organizers hope to use the event to raise $200,000 for non-profit organizations in the Coachella Valley.
