Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Put Off

Event planners say they postponed the event because of not enough time to plan for the half marathon.

Organizers of the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon -- which was originally set for this year in Palm Desert and Indian Wells -- have put off the event until 2012 to allow for more time to plan and market the half marathon.

"We realized with great regret that we simply did not have the time this year to properly plan and market an event to the high standards established by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and expected by our local civic and business partners,'' said Dan Cruz, a spokesman for the series.

Cruz said that all registered runners will get a refund.

"We look forward to opening registration for the 2012 event in the near future,'' he said.

Palm Desert City Manager John Wohlmuth said the city is optimistic about the delay.

“We are disappointed that this fun and exciting event will not take place in Palm Desert this year, but pleased that organizers have stated their clear intention to return here in 2012,” Wohlmuth said.

Tiffany Henness of Huntington Beach, who was registered for the event, said she is thinking about still coming out to Palm Desert.

"I'm seriously considering heading out to Palm Desert ... and running 13.1 miles on my own anyway and using the refund from my registration to make my own 'Rock Legend' medal. I won't get another chance at this,'' Henness said.

She hopes that other runners won't cancel their plans.

"If people can't cancel hotels or flights, perhaps they'd be willing to come and run a little local half marathon,'' Henness said.
