Youth and Government's 64th Legislature and Court

Forty-five students in the Desert Family delegation participated in Y&G this past weekend.

“The wettest, coldest, dirtiest place you’ll ever love,” said Program Director Rolf Davidson when describing Camp Roberts in the opening session for the 64th Legislature and Court of Youth and Government (Y&G).

Nearly 2500 students attended the conference making it the largest gathering in Y&G history. Training and Elections I took place over the three-day weekend. In her second year of Y&G Summar, Abdallah said.

“It is easier to go up and talk to people now,” he said.

The Desert Family delegation, which meets at the Palm Desert YMCA on Tuesday nights, had one candidate run for Speaker Pro-Tem but unfortunately he was up against some fierce competition and did not win the election.

“I really feel like our delegation grew together this weekend,” said Sergeant at Arms of the Desert Family delegation Devin Hampton.

In addition to elections of positions such as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and State Legislative Analyst, thirteen political parties were also competing to be the four main Y&G political parties.  The official parties for this year will be the Ying-Yang Party (returning from last year), House Party, Pirate Party and Slumber Party. Each party has a platform and is trying to recruit as many delegates as possible.

The print media positions were appointed after many rigorous interviews.  I will happily be filling the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Voice, allowing me to cross off another item of my Senior Bucket List.
