Diet and Exercise Tips for Kids

Diet and Exercise Tips for Kids

Children learn by example.  Your good eating and exercise habits are doubly important when you have children.

These tips can help encourage your kids to eat right.

  • Made sure there is always a good supply of fresh fruit and vegetables in the house.
  • Select the low-fat* choices when eating fast food.
  • Pack them a healthy lunch.  Include something crisp, something chewy and something with color.
  • Choose desserts that are low fat* and not loaded with sugar:  fresh fruit, angel food cake, frozen fruit bars, low fat frozen yogurt or fat free pudding.
  • Allow children to be involved in making meals from scratch.

To encourage kids to exercise, try some of the following.

  • Make it a family affair and make it fun.  Turn a walk into a treasure hunt.  Make a list of items for a child to find or spot like a leaf, a white dog, find a stop sign, etc.
  • Minimize the risk of children getting hurt by wearing safety equipment for the activity.  Eg. helmets when biking or elbow pads when rollerskating.
  • Make sure everyone is prepared for physical activity.  Drink plenty of water, do warm up and cool down stretch and have fun!
  • Restrict TV and or video game time to two hours a day or less.
  • Exercise is fun!

*Children under the age of two need calories from fat for normal grouth and development, their diet should not be restricted in fat.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.

Dorothy you actually believe criminals can't get guns without a background check. Wow are youRead More naive. Just because YOU don't understand why some people want a particular weapon...does not mean you can impose your ownership standards on someone else. Suppose I suggest you don't need the particular car you drive or the particlar beverage you drink? I see you are opposed to hunting. How do you feel about abortion? Typical liberal double standard at play here??

Totally agree. This is just the beginning of a gun grab. All it will accomplish is furtherRead More restrictions on law abiding citizens. Chicago is a perfect example. Strictest gun control in the nation and highest gun crime and murder rate. Criminals do not comply with the law. Only legal citizens will lose their rights to own the weapon of their choice. Liberals are all about choice when it comes to killing an unborn, but when it comes to a lawful gunowner's choice it's a different story altogether.
