Desert Best Friend’s Closet (DBFC) is collecting prom and formal dresses and accessories (shoes, evening bags, wraps and “bling”) to outfit local high school girls for upcoming high school prom events.
"DBFC wants to honor senior girls who have elected to stay in high school to earn their diplomas by providing them with a prom dress and possible accessories for this annual American rite of passage. We seek donations to support this endeavor," said Prom Dress Program coordinator, Aleks Braconi. "This is our fifth year of giving away prom dresses and we have a goal of helping 130 girls. We will be at five different locations, on five different dates to make it easier for the girls."
Donations of formal dresses may be dropped off at convenient locations throughout the Coachella Valley by March 25:
- The Wardrobe in Palm Springs
- Drapers and Damons in Rancho Mirage
- Trio in Palm Desert
- Divas of the Desert in La Quinta
All dresses must be contemporary, dry cleaned and on hangers. Items cannot have tears, stains, broken zippers or missing buttons as there are no funds for repairs.
Volunteers are also needed to act as 'personal shoppers' for the girls. Those interested in volunteering should call 760-776-9975 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a volunteer application. Girls in need of a dress should call Ms. Braconi at 949-350-5102 or email email@example.com.
