2nd Annual Just Add SWIM Returns May 10 at Palm Desert Aquatic Center

PALM DESERT (April 11, 2014) - Family YMCA of the Desert, the City of Palm Desert, Palm Desert Aquatic Center and the Swim to Win Foundation are gearing up to host the 2nd Annual Just Add SWIM event on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is geared to participants age 5 and older and families, and reservations are required for the swim lessons.

Last year's inaugural event, Swim to Win, saw more than 2,500 Coachella Valley children adults turn out to take basic swim lessons and learn about pool safety with Olympic swimming champs and YMCA pool staff at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center.

This year, just in time for National Water Safety Month, Just Add SWIM will include Swimming Tips with Olympic Champions, Basic Water Safety, Swimming Fun Races and Olympian Relays, Water Slides, Hi-Dive boards and more. The event is free to attend, and reservations are required.

The goal this year is to build on the success of teaching Coachella Valley kids the basics swimming and pool safety to help prevent drowning accidents. Featured Olympians include Janet Evans, Rowdy Gaines, Aaron Peirsol, Brian Goodell, Chloe Sutton, Jason Lezak, Rada Owens and Kaitlan Sandeno. And autographs are available!

The event is being held at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center at 73751 Magnesia Falls Drive, next to the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. Just Add SWIM runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10; more information is available at www.pd.pool.com. For swim lesson reservations, call the Aquatic Center at (760) 565-7467.
