ALERT: Monterey, Gerald Ford Closed in Palm Desert Due to Broken Water Main

A water leak at Monterey Avenue and Gerald Ford Drive is expected to keep the roads partially closed until tonight, according to a local water agency.

The leak, which created a puddle at the intersection, was reported by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department about 6:50 a.m. at the city limits of Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage.

Workers from the Coachella Valley Water District turned off the water to the broken main about 8:15 a.m., although homes in the area will still have drinking water, according to the water agency.

Gerald Ford was narrowed to one lane in each direction, and Monterey is down to one northbound lane. Southbound Monterey is open. A crew was expected to have the main repaired some time tonight.
