ATHENA: Palm Desert Looking for 'A Few Good Women'

Nominations are now being accepted for the city's ATHENA awards honoring local women who have helped the Palm Desert community.

The City of Palm Desert is proud to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 11th annual ATHENA Awards.

An awards luncheon celebrating this year’s honorees will take place on Wednesday, October 30, at Desert Willow Golf Resort, 38995 Desert Willow Drive, in Palm Desert. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, June 14.

ATHENA Awards in the Corporate Business and Entrepreneurial categories will be presented to two individuals who have achieved excellence in their business or profession, served the community in a meaningful way, and assisted women in reaching their full leadership potential. Educational scholarships sponsored by The Gas Company, Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services, and past ATHENA honorees will be awarded to local college students as part of the awards ceremony.

Sponsored locally by the City of Palm Desert and FirstBank, the ATHENA Awards began in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan, and have since spread to hundreds of cities throughout the United States and abroad. Recipients receive a hand-cast bronze sculpture symbolizing strength, courage, and wisdom.
