City Hosting Free Family Safety Festival in Palm Desert

Family members of all ages are invited to the free event at Palm Desert Civic Center Park this Saturday, March 23.

The city of Palm Desert is again hosting its annual family safety festival this weekend, which will feature several free activities and information on things like earthquake and fire safety.

The event runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Civic Center Park on Saturday, March 23, and will offer up plenty of things for children— including the opportunity to meet McGruff the Crime Dog and Recycle Binney, Palm Desert’s recycling mascot.

Some of the things the city says will be featured at the event include:

  • Earthquake and fire safety tips
  • Bicycle and skateboard safety
  • Dog bite prevention
  • Internet safety for children
  • Swimming safety
  • Car Seat checks

"Children are encouraged to bring their bikes for a fun bicycle rodeo, which will give participants an opportunity to learn, practice, and demonstrate safe bicycle handling skills in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere," Palm Desert City Spokesman David Hermann said, adding that Palm Desert residents can get a free bike helmet.

Both police and fire representatives will also be on hand to "answer questions, demonstrate equipment, and hand out free literature and giveaways," Hermann said.

Some refreshments including hot dogs and frozen lemonade will be available for purchase.

For more information, call 760-836-1697 or 760-836-1761.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.

Dorothy you actually believe criminals can't get guns without a background check. Wow are youRead More naive. Just because YOU don't understand why some people want a particular weapon...does not mean you can impose your ownership standards on someone else. Suppose I suggest you don't need the particular car you drive or the particlar beverage you drink? I see you are opposed to hunting. How do you feel about abortion? Typical liberal double standard at play here??

Totally agree. This is just the beginning of a gun grab. All it will accomplish is furtherRead More restrictions on law abiding citizens. Chicago is a perfect example. Strictest gun control in the nation and highest gun crime and murder rate. Criminals do not comply with the law. Only legal citizens will lose their rights to own the weapon of their choice. Liberals are all about choice when it comes to killing an unborn, but when it comes to a lawful gunowner's choice it's a different story altogether.
