'Desert-Scape' Your Palm Desert Home and Get Up to $2,000

The rebate applies only to front yards, and the new landscaping must include an irrigation controller that reduces water use.

Palm Desert homeowners can get up to $2,000 for replacing grass with desert plants via a new program through the city and the Coachella Valley Water District, a city spokesman said Monday.

Starting Aug. 1, residents can apply for a $2 per-square-foot rebate for removing up to 1,000 square feet of turf and replacing it with drip-irrigated desert landscaping, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

The rebate applies only to front yards, and the new landscaping must include an irrigation controller that reduces water use.
