Free Outdoor Movie Series Begins in Rancho Mirage

Get your popcorn ready and your blankets out... it's time for some free outdoor movies!

Free outdoor movies start in Rancho Mirage Tuesday as part of the city's 40th anniversary.

All the movies feature entertainers who "lived, played, and shaped Rancho Mirage," including the Marx brothers, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Each movie will be hosted by a surprise celebrity guests and a City Council member.

Here's a rundown of the schedule:

  • May 14 -- "The Long, Long Trailer," hosted by Mayor Pro Tem Iris Smotrich
  • May 21 -- "From Here to Eternity," hosted by Mayor Richard Kite
  • June 4 -- "Ocean's 11," hosted by Councilman Dana Hobart
  • June 11 -- "Road to Morocco, hosted by Councilman Scott Hines

All films will be shown at Whitewater Park, 71560 San Jacinto Drive, at 8 p.m., but city officials said people should show up at 7 p.m.

People can bring blankets, food and drinks. Popcorn and soft drinks will be sold. Free valet parking will be available.
