The Girlfriend Factor, a local non-profit scholarship organization, plans to host its second annual educational/career fair "Which Education, What Career" at College of the Desert this evening, Thursday Sept. 12.
The event is billed as a showcase of desert academic and training programs that can lead to employment opportunities and it is open to all men and women of the Coachella Valley.
The free event is scheduled 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Cravens Student Services Center multi-purpose room on COD's Palm Desert campus, according to organizers.
Presenters expected at the event include College of the Desert; California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus; Ameritas College; International School of Beauty; Loma Linda Medical Center School of Dentistry; Pathways to Success; Center for Employment Training; and California Desert Trial Academy College of Law.
Careers represented by these organizations include, but are not limited to air conditioning/HVAC, dental hygiene, cosmetology, medical assistant, legal professions, automotive alternate fuels, landscape and irrigation technician, pest management, turfgrass management, alcohol and drug counseling, real estate, architecture drafting, accounting, hospitality management, human resources, retail management, culinary arts, and early childhood education, organizers said.
"Special guests Jan Harnik, Palm Desert Mayor, and Dr. Doris Wilson, Associate Dean, California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus, will share their inspirational stories," Girlfriend Factor reps said in an announcement.

The Girlfriend Factor is billed as a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to provide educational grants to adult women so they may return to school to become self-sufficient.
