Local Charities Receive $140,000 in Grants

The Champions Volunteer Foundation hands out proceeds from the BNP Paribas Open to over 40 local charities.

42 local charities received $140,000 in grants from The Champions Volunteer Foundation.  The checks were handed out during a breakfast ceremony on Friday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Champions Volunteer Foundation is the main beneficiary of proceeds from the annual BNP Paribas Open, held in Indian Wells.

Many of the representatives of the various recipients expressed their gratitude in light of the ongoing economic problems that have seen grants from governmental organizations dry up.

“I know for many charitable organizations, it has been an incredible journey the last few years”, said Judi Miller, Associate Executive Director for the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert. “So for that, we’d like to thank The Champions Foundation.”

Shanna Hirschi, Senior Program Director for the Arthritis Foundation – Coachella Valley, told how the donations and grants have helped expand their programs for children.

“We run a camp for children with arthritis called Camp Esparanza,” Hirschi said. “This year, we’ve been able to send 250 kids to camp, our biggest year yet.  With this funding, it helps us send even more kids.”

The Champions Volunteer Foundation has given over $1.2 million to local charities since it's start in 2002.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.

Dorothy you actually believe criminals can't get guns without a background check. Wow are youRead More naive. Just because YOU don't understand why some people want a particular weapon...does not mean you can impose your ownership standards on someone else. Suppose I suggest you don't need the particular car you drive or the particlar beverage you drink? I see you are opposed to hunting. How do you feel about abortion? Typical liberal double standard at play here??

Totally agree. This is just the beginning of a gun grab. All it will accomplish is furtherRead More restrictions on law abiding citizens. Chicago is a perfect example. Strictest gun control in the nation and highest gun crime and murder rate. Criminals do not comply with the law. Only legal citizens will lose their rights to own the weapon of their choice. Liberals are all about choice when it comes to killing an unborn, but when it comes to a lawful gunowner's choice it's a different story altogether.
