PGA Tour Pros Donate to First Tee

PGA tour players donate $21,000 to local golf group aimed at children.

The First Tee of the Coachella Valley received a $21,000 donation from PGA Tour pros today in Palm Desert.

The money was provided to Desert Classic Charities, the local non-profit group that organized the Humana Challenge, who in turn, awarded the money to The First Tee.

Three-time PGA Tour winner Scott McCarron, who lives in La Quinta, was on hand to present the check to the The First Tee.  McCarron also donated two bags full of golf equipment the to group.

“This is something that as players and as one-time junior golfers, we all take a lot of pride in doing – paying it forward” McCarron said. “As an organization, The First Tee has already made a difference in the lives of many kids, and as players, we know that every bit helps here.”

Following the presentation, McCarron put on a clinic for the approximately 20 kids that braved the windy conditions.

Last week, Desert Classic Charities handed out over $2 million dollars to 40 charities from across the Coachella Valley.  This is the first time that The First Tee was a recipient of funds from the Humana Challenge.

“The First Tee is very grateful to the PGA Tour players for their generosity and to Desert Classic Charities for their support,” said Glenn Miller, First Tee executive director.
