Photos: Children of All Ages Enjoy Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival

Family and friends enjoyed a full day of fun Saturday at the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center at the Wildflower Festival which was free to all. The threat of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those in attendance. 

Exhibitors whose mission’s focus on nature, conservation and the environment helped to fill the festival grounds. They shared their knowledge and excitement about the wonders of the Coachella Valley.  Local artists and vendors demonstrated their crafts and offered their merchandise for sale.

Trained trail guides lead hikers and walkers on the trails near the Visitor Center while specialty workshops on a variety of topics occurred at various times throughout the day.  All hikes and workshops were free of charge. 

One of the most popular parts of the Festival was the “Kids Zone” where children of all ages shook hands with Smokey Bear, met live animals and participated in various “make and take” stations with nature themed crafts and activities, face painting, and live children’s entertainment.

There was musical entertainment in the Beer & Wine Garden by The Shadow Mountain Band. Food was available for purchase provided by Murph’s Gaslight. Eureka! of Indian Wells was responsible for the microbrews.

The event was sponsored by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Southern California Edison, the City of Palm Desert, the City of Palm Springs Sustainability Commission, Classic Party Rentals and Vintage Nursery along with other sponsors.
