Do you have extra soap, blankets or canned food lying around your house? Well, those are just some of the things that the sheriff's department is asking you to consider donating to help in-need youth.
The Palm Desert station of the sheriff's department is teaming up with Safehouse of the Desert to host "Stuff the Bus," a campaign aimed at stocking up as much of these sorts of needed supplies as possible for the runaway and homeless kids it tends to.
A bus will be parked in front of the sheriff's station on Gerald Ford Drive beginning Nov. 3, through Nov. 8, according to Sergeant Larry Sherman. There will also be boxes for after-hours drop-offs.
"Operation SafeHouse is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the safety and well-being of children in crisis," Sherman said. "SafeHouse offers law enforcement personnel a positive alternative when they encounter a runaway youth or youth in crisis."
