16-year old Grant Virgin is recovering under sedation, after being while walking on Deep Canyon drive just north of Fred Waring Drive on Monday night.
The Palm Desert high sophomore has undergone at least two surgeries and remains in the pediatric intensive care unit at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center today, according to a Facebook post by his mother JJ, a fitness and nutrition expert.
"He is fighting to wake up, moving his arms and legs, which is a good
sign. They had some trouble keeping his intracranial pressure down (pressure in
his brain) so they have to keep him sedated,'' she wrote.
Virgin suffered multiple fractures, a brain injury and a torn aorta. The
woman was going about 40 mph when she hit Virgin, who was walking near his
house, according to a post on his mother's website.
Investigators are looking for a Hispanic female suspect that was driving a late model white compact with major front end damage.
