Storm Set to Arrive in Pass Sunday Afternoon

The rain chance Sunday night is 100 percent and overnight lows from Beaumont to Cabazon are expected to range from 40 to 49, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm bringing wind and rain to the San Gorgonio Pass and snow to the mountains above Coachella is expected to arrive late Sunday afternoon and last into Monday morning.

South to southwest winds of 15 miles per hour to 25 mph, with gusts to 40 mph, are expected ahead of the cold front and a wind advisory has been issued from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Moderate to briefly heavy rain and mountain snow are expected Sunday evening with a slight chance of thunderstorm activity, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall on southwest-facing mountain slopes north of the Pass could total two to three inches, with locally greater amounts.

"Rain will taper to showers Sunday night and showers will end Monday morning," the Weather Service advised.

Several inches of snow are possible above 6,000 feet elevation, with snow levels falling to 4,500 or 5,000 feet by Sunday night, according to the Weather Service.

"This weather will be hazardous for unprepared campers and hikers in the mountains," the Weather Service advised on Thursday.
