Teen Sent to Hospital in Hit-and-Run Identified

A 16-year-old Palm Desert boy who was hit by a car Monday night has been transferred to UCLA Medical Center, recovering from serious injuries.

KESQ Television identified the boy as Grant Virgin, son of fitness guru J.J. Virgin.  In a post on Facebook Tuesday night, Grant's mother asked for positive thoughts and energy for her son who's in a trauma unit.

The Palm Desert High student was struck while walking on Deep Canyon Drive near Fred Waring Drive at about 7:35 Monday evening.  According to police reports, the driver of the white sedan that hit Virgin continued northbound on Deep Canyon after the incident.

The driver is described as a hispanic female, about 30 years old, approximately 5-6 and 150 pounds.
