Teen Sent to Hospital in Hit-and-Run Identified

Grant Virgin transferred to UCLA Medical Center following Monday accident

A 16-year-old Palm Desert boy who was hit by a car Monday night has been transferred to UCLA Medical Center, recovering from serious injuries.

KESQ Television identified the boy as Grant Virgin, son of fitness guru J.J. Virgin.  In a post on Facebook Tuesday night, Grant's mother asked for positive thoughts and energy for her son who's in a trauma unit.

The Palm Desert High student was struck while walking on Deep Canyon Drive near Fred Waring Drive at about 7:35 Monday evening.  According to police reports, the driver of the white sedan that hit Virgin continued northbound on Deep Canyon after the incident.

The driver is described as a hispanic female, about 30 years old, approximately 5-6 and 150 pounds.

Palm Desert Police ask anyone that witnessed the accident to call (760) 826-1600.

How could the driver's height and weight possibly be estimated since she did not get out of the car to render assistance? I pray that Grant will recover fully, and the the driver is apprehended and prosecuted.

Absolutely horrible! I only hope the facts come out that the driver did not know he/she hit Grant, because it is beyond comprehension that a civilized person would knowingly injure a child [or anyone] and callously leave him to his injured fate. Get well, young man.

Probably an unliscenced driver. I find it hard to believe you wouldn't feel that you hit something :( I hope she is found and prosecuted to the fullest.

Hardly "beyond comprehension" if the driver happened to be in this country illegally; likely she headed a bit east to the 'sanctuary city' of Coachella for safe haven.

We're all all pulling for you Grant. Can't stop thinking about you. Get through this and come home soon; we miss seeing you walking around the neighborhood and climbing walls like a spider. My thoughts go out to you too, JJ and John and of course Bryce (and Dixie). As a parent, I can only imagine each agonizing moment that passes, as you pray for your prayers to be answered. You are all in my prayers, your neighor, bonnie

I am putting forth positive energy for this teen that he recovers with no problem... AND the driver what a cold heartless person !! I am sure that she is an illegal citizen driving with no license as many do... Shouldn't everyone have to get a license? Why do some think they don't need it?

I had hoped the police would have released a composite drawing of this woman. The witnesses saw her get out of her car and inspect it then look back where he was laying - someone must have seen her face. I have asked business associates to keep a look out for the car. I also miss seeing the family in the neighborhood and my prayers go out to the Virgin family. God be with you Grant.

David Wilson on AM Radio 920 @ 3PM has been on this case and even interviewed a Sheriff about this beyond comprehension crime. Let's get more airing on our local hispanic Radio & TV stations that appeal to the 30 year old Hispanics & maybe get one of her friends to identify . God Speed Grant
