Water Main Break Forces Temporary Closure of Hwy 111 in Palm Desert

Repair of the water main break is expected to take at least several hours and the closure will remain in place during repairs.

The following alert was sent out Thursday afternoon by the City of Palm Desert:
Eastbound Highway 111 in Palm Desert has reopened following a water main break that temporarily closed the roadway Thursday.

The flow of water has been stopped and one lane continues to be open for eastbound traffic. The traffic signal at Highway 111 and Plaza Way has been placed on flash mode.

Highway 111 had already been reduced to one lane in both directions as a result of the ongoing repaving project. That project will continue Friday and is not expected to be completed until October.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as Country Club Drive.

  • WHEN:  Signal at Plaza Way and Highway 111 in red flash mode until repairs are completed. Highway 111 repaving continuing until October. Authorized construction hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
