Traffic Alert: Monterey Ave. Lane Closures to Last 30 Days

Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage drivers may have noticed a slight traffic inconvenience this week: Monterey Avenue is partially closed.

It's all part of an ongoing construction project in the area near College of the Desert, which will continue to impact area traffic for the next month, according to city officials.

"Beginning Monday, July 8 and continuing for 30 days, northbound lanes on Monterey will be closed between Gran Via (entrance to Monterey Country Club) and Fred Waring Drive to allow workers to trench for drainage improvements," City Spokesman David Hermann said in an traffic advisory last week.

According to Hermann, traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction-- confined to the area which normally serves southbound traffic only.

"Significant delays are expected...Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as Bob Hope Drive and Cook Street," he said.

The city of Palm Desert provided the attached image detailing the area of the closures.  Click on the photo for a larger view.
