TRAFFIC ALERT: Prepare for Delays on Monterey This Week

On Monday July 1, workers will be digging up a portion of the roadway to install conduit. Northbound traffic on Monterey will be reduced to one lane.

The following news release was sent out from the city of Palm Desert: 

Workers continue to construct drainage and traffic flow improvements on Monterey Avenue from Fred Waring Drive north to Gran Via and on westbound Fred Waring from San Pablo Avenue to Monterey.

On Monday July 1, workers will be digging up a portion of the roadway to install conduit. Northbound traffic on Monterey will be reduced to one lane. The signal at Monterey and Park View/College of the Desert entrance could be placed in flash mode. This phase of the work will take approximately two hours.

Temporary lane closures are occurring throughout the project with Monterey Avenue periodically reduced to one lane in each direction, and westbound Fred Waring Drive periodically reduced to one lane.

Commuters will experience delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes or allow extra time. Alternate routes include Portola Avenue and Highway 111.

  • WHERE:  The greatest impacts on Monday, July 1, will be on northbound Monterey. During the entire project, westbound Fred Waring Drive from San Pablo Avenue to Monterey Avenue and Monterey Avenue from Fred Waring Drive north to Gran Via are being affected.
  •  WHEN:  Conduit work on Monday, July 1, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. with construction on the entire project continuing through Wednesday, September 4
