Traffic Alert: Work Planned at Monterey, Fred Waring Thru Sept.

City officials say crews will be constructing drainage and traffic flow improvements in the area beginning June 3.

Palm Desert city officials warned area drivers Thursday of some upcoming roadwork in town.

Beginning Monday, June 3, workers will be constructing "drainage and traffic flow improvements" on Monterey Avenue and Fred Waring Drive, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

Specifically, work will take place:

  • On westbound Fred Waring from San Pablo Avenue to Monterey
  • On Monterey from Fred Waring north to Gran Via
Hermann said traffic will mostly be affected on the westbound side of Fred Waring.  On Monterey, both northbound and southbound lanes will see some slowing, he said.

"Temporary lane closures will occur throughout the project with Monterey Avenue periodically reduced to one lane in each direction," Hermann said.  "Entrances to College of the Desert will not be fully closed during construction, but brief temporary closures may occur."

The project isn't scheduled to wrap until September 4.  Alternate routes are suggested, including Country Club Drive and Portola Avenue.
