Update: $90K Raised at Martha's Village & Kitchen 5K on El Paseo

The non-profit organization has calculated the totals from this year's event on El Paseo and says it was a record-breaking year for them.

Martha's Village & Kitchen is celebrating record turnout and $90,000 in funds raised from their recent 5K on El Paseo, organizers announced.

Calling it the largest fundraising event in their 21-year history, the Village says the annual Thanksgiving Day 5K walk/run attracted nearly 2,000 participants in its first year being held on Palm Desert's El Paseo.

"Through the hard work of our staff, 137 dedicated volunteers, and over 1,900 runners and outstanding sponsors, this year’s Thanksgiving Day 5K was our best ever," Bob Therieau, online communications manager for the organization said Tuesday.  "When the final accounting was done, the event raised a little over $90,000 for our Food Services and Emergency Food Distribution over the coming year."

Therieau provided the following key numbers from the event:

  • Total registrants: 1,925
  • Volunteers on race day: 137
  • Photos taken by Martha’s and Infinity Timing: Over 4,000
  • Meals served at the race: 350
  • Meals served at Martha’s on Thanksgiving: Over 650
  • Gross proceeds: $142,000
  • Net proceeds: $90,500

Therieau tells Palm Desert Patch that the race will return to the El Paseo location in 2013.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.

Dorothy you actually believe criminals can't get guns without a background check. Wow are youRead More naive. Just because YOU don't understand why some people want a particular weapon...does not mean you can impose your ownership standards on someone else. Suppose I suggest you don't need the particular car you drive or the particlar beverage you drink? I see you are opposed to hunting. How do you feel about abortion? Typical liberal double standard at play here??

Totally agree. This is just the beginning of a gun grab. All it will accomplish is furtherRead More restrictions on law abiding citizens. Chicago is a perfect example. Strictest gun control in the nation and highest gun crime and murder rate. Criminals do not comply with the law. Only legal citizens will lose their rights to own the weapon of their choice. Liberals are all about choice when it comes to killing an unborn, but when it comes to a lawful gunowner's choice it's a different story altogether.
