Valley's First Food Truck Arrives, Despite Break Down

The Fashion Week kick off event turns into free food for all.

of East Meets West Catering was scheduled to sell food out of his new food truck on the corner of Larkspur Lane and El Paseo on Friday.

On the way, his food truck broke down and had to be towed to the location. And at the location water problems had the city closing off bits of Larkspur to dig into the asphalt, causing a blockade on half the street.

But what could have been a disaster, ended up being one of those events that actually brings people together.

Because of the delay, Kiefer announced that all food would be free.

A crowd of happy pedestrians gathered around to try his two specialty items: date and bacon ice cream and chicken and date salad wraps. Within an hour the food was gone and shoppers on El Paseo were full with content bellies.

Christy Majors of said the ice cream was delicious.

Others who came out to support the launch were Christine Stein from , Amanda Smith from ITEX, Stephanie Greene from Matthew Reader and William Miller from William Miller Design and local foodie maven Janet Newcomb.

The purpose of the lunchtime fete was to promote which kicks off March 20-28, 2011, under The Big White Tent in the heart of El Paseo. It features eight days of parties, fashion shows, in store events and foodie parties
