VIDEO: Marine Who Served in Vietnam Reminds Employers 'Hire Veterans'

Patch video by Guy McCarthy

Matt Monica, who served with the Marines during the Vietnam War, reminded employers in the Coachella Valley to hire veterans after a Veterans Day ceremony Monday Nov. 11 at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert.

Monica, who came to the ceremony with his wife Mary Ann Monica, is a member of the Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education.

"What employers need to understand is the technical, extensive training that all men and women receive in the military very often equals a college degree," Monica said. "And also very often, the training and expertise is relevant to the . . . positions the local businesses and others are hiring.

"Therefore my interpretation, not only should the government continue to support and supplement the businesses that hire veterans, the veteran is a committed, dedicated individual who will perform as a top employee in any businesses that are hiring," Monica said.

"I think people need to understand and realize that is the need now and in the future."
