The following is a news release from the Riverside County Economic Development Agency:

Coachella Valley Association of Governments, the City of Palm Desert, and Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley will be celebrating the Monterey Avenue / Interstate 10 Ramp Improvement Groundbreaking on Friday April 4, at 9 a.m.

The $7 Million project will widen and realign on and off ramp westbound to connect with Varner Road instead of Monterey Avenue and add traffic signal at Varner Road.

“Motorists should notice a big difference nine months from now when the project is scheduled to be completed,” said Palm Desert Mayor Van Tanner. “All of us who drive Monterey Avenue know that it is sometimes a challenge to get on westbound Interstate 10,” Tanner said.

“This new ramp will ease access to the freeway for the motoring public providing a smoother, safer experience for our desert residents and visitors.”

Special guest speakers at the April 4th groundbreaking event will include: Van Tanner, Mayor, City of Palm Desert; Don Adolph, Chair, Coachella Valley Association of Governments; Marion Ashley, Supervisor Riverside County Board of Supervisors, District 5; Manuel Perez, Assemblyman, California State Assembly, District 56; John Standiford, Deputy Director, Riverside County Transportation Commission; Jan Harnik, Chair, CVAG Transportation Committee; Patty Romo, Assistant Director, Riverside County Transportation Department; Christy Connors, Deputy District Director of Design, CalTrans, District 8, and Tom Kirk, Executive Director, Coachella Valley Association of Governments.

I drive through this interchange often, and it is indeed a mad-house getting through there with the traffic. Hopefully this new construction will help smooth out the flow of traffic a bit.

It seems like they just did this interchange. Perhaps finishing the Portola bridge would alleviate some of the congestion.

$7 million? That's borrowed money friend. Bankers ALWAYS there to make sure we go into debt more and more. It would cost a miniscule fraction of money just to pay a few people to stand at appropriate places (properly protected) and guide the traffic. A SMALL FRACTION of $7 million. It does NOT bother me one bit to go there - I see NO need to borrow that money. So tell me, are YOU happy about having more and more debt that in the long run is ruining our entire country? Banks, corporations, the Bar and attorneys and attorney judges, politicians.....we let them run our country and we are headed for the cliff.
