Art Lovers Fashion Week Exhibition

Christian Hohmann Fine Art keeps things relevant with Grand Couture paintings by Rimi Yang.

There are a lot of quality art galleries in Palm Desert with fascinating exhibitions. But one of my favorites is on El Paseo because of the owner's commitment to keeping things relevant, not only with current affairs, but by creating synergies with other things going on in the community.

For example, when the Egyptian Revolution took place recently, he shared special paintings by one of his family's oldest gallery artists Mohamed Abla which celebrated the way art can bridge cultures. Abla, an artist who has risked danger many times to stay true to his passion of spreading an awareness of contemporary art in Egypt, creates paintings depicting his own life and culture and for a few weeks. Christian shared those pieces with the public.

On a recent Sunday, passersby to the gallery were greeted with celebratory noise inside and crooning by pianist Johnny Meza on the occasion of Christian's birthday. Instead of closing the doors, Christian wanted to have his party with friends and collectors while still inviting the public in. This kind of non-pretentious and welcoming attitude is unfortunately not common for the art world and is what makes Christian and his gallery stand out among many others.

This week, in celebration of Fashion Week El Paseo and through the 27th, Christian will be exhibiting the Grand Couture paintings of California-based, Japanese-born artist Rimi Yang. The paintings are a perfect art-lovers accompaniment to other Fashion Week activities. Yang's exquisite paintings on view combine ancient Asian-inspired brushstroke techniques, an emotional intuitive flow inspiration, and contemporary figures in haute couture adornments. Stunning and beautiful, these paintings are not to be missed!
