Art, Rock Combine At Date Shed

The Date Shed offers one more performance of the Red Show and record release party all in one night.

A while back I wrote about a new venue in the desert called the Date Shed, which is the valley's newest musical venue. Housed in an old date packing building on the Indio Polo Grounds in Indio, it is truly a unique place that one will only find in the desert.

Since I wrote about attending the Mike Watt show there, I have been back twice. Once to see a stellar night of eclectic bands, and another to take part in an art show called the Red Show, curated by local art star and Date Shed's entertainment booker Cristopher Cichocki.

Cichocki, known for his explorations into where man meets nature, filled a room on the site with art and then created a grid system of light on the ceiling in all red bulbs. The result was that the art show was took place in a room that glowed with a pulsating fire. Cichocki's dead Salton Sea fish also hung from the ceiling.

This weekend that show is closing and it's a perfect opportunity to check out the Date Shed if you haven't yet. Go early for the art show and stay for the Blackstrap Molasses band's album release party after.

This Saturday night, the doors will open to anyone 15 and over, so if you're a hip 30 0r-40-year-old parent with older teens, use this as the perfect start to their summer vacation and bond a little with some boogey.

Several bands will play throughout the evening and you can check them out individually here:
