Avant-garde Photographer Previews New Work At Palm Desert Gallery

Los Angeles-based photographer Peter Eaton Gurnz presents a sneak preview of his recent collaboration with supermodel Masha Rudenko. The dramatic collection of images is part of a show which opens on St. Barts in August.

In advance of the premiere of his collection, "CIRK," photographer Peter Eaton Gurnz provided a preview of the "works in progress" exhibit at the .

"CIRK" is a collaboration with Russian supermodel Masha Rudenko. The images, all of which feature the lithe model, were mounted to panel for the exhibition.

“There is a lot of nudity,” he said, “but it’s not pornographic. It’s very fashion-y, but there’s not really any clothes.”

Gurnz said the pieces will be available for custom imprinting on a variety of “constructed and industrial” surfaces. One completed piece can take up to three months to create, he said.

To demonstrate the range of possibilities, Gurnz split one image into sections then, mounted the pieces to glass and connected them by wire, creating a pictographic stained glass effect.

The collection features Rudenko in a variety of costumes representing images from a circus, hence the name, “CIRK,” in Russian. It also hints at the circus-like atmosphere of her international life in the spotlight.

Gurnz pointed out that on each of the photographs, Rudenko wrote poems for the characters she portayed.

“I think art is something you connect to … and the art that you choose [to display] is a good way of telling people who you are,” he said.

The preview can be seen at the Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery for the remainder of this week. CIRK premieres officially on the Caribbean island of St. Barts in August and from there,  tours throughout Europe and Asia.
