Barry Manilow Cancels McCallum Show in Honor of Newtown School Shooting Victims

"Perhaps this small gesture of solidarity will help support these families on this terrible day," Manilow said. The singer says he plans to reschedule the show for this Sunday instead.

Music legend and Valley resident Barry Manilow has canceled his charity concert Friday night in Palm Desert, as "gesture of solidarity" to support the families affected in Friday's Connecticut shooting tragedy.

The singer was slated to perform the third show  on Dec. 14.

The show will instead be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the McCallum Theatre, which means he'll now have to perform twice that day: at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Manilow issued the following statement:

We are all deeply hurt and saddened by the tragedy that has occurred in Newtown, Connecticut.

Our hearts go out to the families that have been devastated by the loss of their loved ones.

In their honor, we have cancelled tonight’s concert performance and have rescheduled the concert for this Sunday at 2pm.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause but trust that you share in our feelings of devastation.

Perhaps this small gesture of solidarity will help support these families on this terrible day.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
