Baseball's Steve Garvey Hosting Q&A of '42'

Garvey, who lives in Palm Desert, will attend the 7 p.m. screening at Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert on Friday.

Former professional baseball player Steve Garvey will answer questions after a screening tomorrow of  "42," the new movie about baseball legend Jackie Robinson.

Garvey, who lives in Palm Desert, will attend the 7 p.m. screening at Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert. At age 8, Garvey was a batboy for the Brooklyn Dodgers during Robinson's era, according to theater operators.

"42" depicts Robinson's signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers and breaking baseball's color barrier in 1947. The film is directed by Oscar winner Brian Helgeland and stars Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey and Chadwick Boseman as Robinson.

Garvey, who played first base for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, was a 10-time All-Star, National League MVP in 1974 and led the 1981 Dodgers to a World Series win.
