Beat the Heat with Summer Performances at the McCallum

For locals and visitors looking to escape the heat and soak up some culture, the McCallum Theatre will host three performances this summer, the first of which is Monday.

The Summer Session Festival will be presented this week conjunction with the McCallum Theatre Institute's Aesthetic Education Program.

The performances:

  • Monday, 1:30 p.m. -- "Taller Than I Am," performed by Milwaukee Ballet. A combination classical ballet and modern dance by Czech choreographer Petr Zahradnicek, a three-time finalist in the McCallum's Choreography Festival.
  • Wednesday -- "MU: One Ocean, One World." A story based on a Japanese legend. A collaboration involving National Endowment for the Arts Playwright Fellow and storyteller Brenda Wong Aoki, Emmy Award-winning composer Mark Izu and musicians. There will be a question-and-answer session after the show.
  • Friday -- "The Elasticity of the Almost," performed by Orange-based Backhausdance. Two new dances by choreographer Jennifer Backhaus.

The Wednesday and Friday shows are also at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for each performance, $35 for all three and $7 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available by calling (760) 340-2787 or going to www.mccallumtheatre.com.
