Two tribute bands will give a free concert at the "Forever Marilyn" statue tonight in downtown Palm Springs.

Beatles tribute band Paperback Writer and Beach Boys tribute band Catch a Wave will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way, event spokesman Joe Enos said.

The concert is the latest community event to be held at the 26-foot-tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe, which was originally scheduled to leave Palm Springs this month. Its stay was extended to mid November.

The statue has served as a backdrop to a Monroe look-alike contest, a birthday party for the late actress featuring an Elton John tribute artist and outdoor screenings of her films.
