'Broadway on a Budget' Highlights the McCallum Theatre’s 2011-12 Season

As the McCallum's current season winds down, the upcoming roster of productions for next season was just announced, leaving theater patrons much to anticipate.

The McCallum Theatre's newly announced 2011-2012 season has something for everyone.

Ted Giatas, the McCallum Theatre President and CEO, said in a statement, “Our audiences have been telling us that they love Broadway musicals.”

To meet that need, a new series for cost-conscious patrons will be offered. The “Broadway on a Budget” series allows theater-goers to see four musical productions for as little as $100, choosing from several popular Tony winners --  “Mamma Mia,” “South Pacific,” “Grease,” “In the Heights,” “Burn the Floor” and “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

In addition, the new season continues the McCallum’s well-attended “Fitz’s Jazz Café” series featuring the talented musical stars Chris Botti, Herb Alpert, Steve Tyrell, John Pizzarelli and Lucy Woodward.

For Classical music fans, there will be performances by violinist Josh Bell, pianist Jeffrey Siegel and the King’s Singers. Also coming in the new season will be the opera favorite, “La Boheme,” and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s “Moulin Rouge.” For those who prefer their ballet on the lighter side, there is the world-renowned drag troupe, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.
