El Paseo Art Updated with 18 New Sculptures Featured Along Median

Eighteen new sculptures have been installed on the median of El Paseo between Highway 74 and Portola as part of the 2013-2014 El Paseo Invitational Exhibition, the city reports.

The new 2013-2014 El Paseo Invitational Exhibition is currently on display along El Paseo. This two-year outdoor exhibit showcases eighteen new sculptures by artists from around the nation and worldwide, as well as local artists in Palm Desert.

Local business owner, Brett Fiore of Signature Sculpture, headed the installation process which was completed over a 6 week span throughout October and November.

This process consisted of breaking down the previous exhibit, and installing each sculpture in its designated spot along the median of El Paseo.

The previous sculptures are either purchases and delivered to their new owners or they are located to anew exhibition elsewhere in the country.

Not only is Fiore in charge of the installation, but he is also caretaker of the public art which consists of creating a customized maintenance schedule for each sculpture for the two years it sits on El Paseo. This is the third two-year collection that he has handled for the city of Palm Desert.

“Each sculpture has its own specific maintenance program, and it important to have knowledge of how to clean and care each piece,” said Fiore.

Now that the new exhibit’s installation is complete, Fiore has already jumped into the role of caretaker, a job he prides himself on and enjoys. After many years of working in the industry and being exposed to an abundance of art on a daily basis, he has found himself very impressed on some of the sculptures he has seen in this new exhibit.

“It is rare for me to be attracted to a specific piece of art, but there are certain pieces in this exhibition that have really caught my eye, and I am very excited for both residents and visitors to be able to view these sculptures for the next two years,” said Fiore.

The official dedication ceremony is scheduled to be held on January 7th at The Gardens on El Paseo.
