A Tribute to the Music of Harry James

Master trumpet artist Dr. Jack Poster will lead his 10-piece big band in “A Tribute to the Music of Harry James” on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Indian Wells Theater at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus.

The concert, which begins at 2 p.m., features Poster, former lead trumpet with the Harry James Orchestra (1969-1971), as well as vocalists Troy Clarke and Cassie Miller.

They will perform hits such as "All of Me," "Days of Wine and Roses," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and "Blue Tango."

Poster, who holds a doctorate degree in music from Claremont Graduate School, has been on the cutting edge of the entertainment business ever since becoming a professional trumpet artist. He has an extensive performance background in all areas of music including jazz, pop, classical and midi sequencing. He is considered an expert in midi sequencing since becoming an operator in 1986.

Poster was the lead trumpet player for such artists as Stan Kenton, Harry James, Ray Anthony, Si Zetner and others. He performed with the Nat Brandwynn Orchestra and the Johnny Haig Orchestra and led his own band "The Rave" from 1984-90, when he became the musical director and featured artist at the Maxim Hotel in Las Vegas.

He also coordinated bands on the Barge at Caesar's Palace for eight years and recorded albums with such stars as Frank Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Andy Williams, the Pointer Sisters, Ray Anthony and Harry James.

Poster has been a guest lecturer at the University of Redlands, San Diego State University, Cerritos College and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He has 11 years of teaching experience.
