“Jazz For Jazz Lovers” Series’ Second Season Continues with the Tom Scott Quartet

The Second season of Pete Carlson’s “Jazz for Jazz Lovers” Concert Series with the American Jazz Institute continues on March 9. The Tom Scott Quartet performs at 7pm inside Pete Carlson’s Golf & Tennis in Palm Desert on Highway 111 (just west of San Luis Rey). Admission is $20 and students are Free. Seating is limited and Desert jazz fans should arrive early.

Tom Scott is a saxophonist, composer, arranger, conductor and bandleader. He played west coast jazz/jazz fusion with the ensemble, The L.A. Express, which he founded. His best-known works are the theme songs for TV series from the 1970s and 1980s — Starsky and Hutch and The Streets of San Francisco. His soprano sax solo and fills can be heard on the 1975 #1 hit single, Listen to What the Man Said for Wings. Scott has also collaborated with Johnny Mathis.

He has dozens of solo recordings for which he collected thirteen Grammy nominations (three of which he won). His diversity as an artist is recognized as he has appeared on records by; George Harrison, The Grateful Dead, Paul McCartney, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Joni Mitchell, Blondie, Eddie Money, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, The Blues Brothers, Quincy Jones, Carole King, Olivia Newton-John and Frank Sinatra. He was the Musical Director of the 68th Academy Awards in 1996, several Emmy Awards telecasts from 1996 to 2007, Ebony Magazine's 50th Birthday Celebration, several People's Choice Awards telecasts, and a variety of other shows.
