Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade

The chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla
Indians was today named the Community Heritage Grand Marshal for the 20th
annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade, which will be held Saturday.
``Richard Milanovich is a true role model when it comes to giving back
to our community and promoting the importance of our city's Native American
heritage,'' said Mayor Steve Pougnet.
Milanovich will join Celebrity Grand Marshal Carol Channing and
Community Grand Marshals Jim and Jaimi Houston in the parade, which will honor
the memory of philanthropist Jackie Lee Houston. Jim is her husband and Jaimi
is her daughter.
The parade will start at 5:45 p.m. at Ramon Road and travel north along
Palm Canyon Drive, concluding at Tamarisk Road. More than 80,000 spectators are
expected downtown, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said.
The parade will feature holiday floats covered in thousands of lights,
giant Macy's-style balloons and local high school and middle school marching
bands.
