'Incandescent' Closes McCallum Summer Program

The McCallum Theatre Institute's Summer Session Festival that runs from June 13-17 presents public performances for all age groups.

Each year during the summer months, the Institute, in association with the Lincoln Center Institute in New York, presents an artistic curriculum for educators and students to help develop their understanding of music and movement.

Part of this program includes a roster of public performances by a selection of world-class artists and musicians.

The 2011 performance series opened with Monday’s appearance of “Taikoproject,” a Los Angeles based drum troupe critically acclaimed for their mastery of the Japanese drum.

Wednesday’s performance by storyteller Brenda Wong Aoki kept listeners riveted in their seats with her lyrical tales and Asian Pacific folk legends.

The festival concludes this Friday with ”Backhausdance,” under the direction of renowned dancer/choreographer Jennifer Backhaus. The company will present “Incandescent,” an exploration of light and darkness in relationship to the human spirit.
