Local Resort Hosts Gingerbread House Contest

Get those creative hats on and build a gingerbread house for your chance to win from Miramonte Resort-- all while helping a good cause.

Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells started its Desert Holidays program Thursday by inviting the community to build houses for its Gingerbread Village.

The deadline for submissions is Nov. 19, and "lots" for the houses are $20 to $50. All proceeds benefit Shelter From The Storm, a shelter for victims of domestic violence in the Coachella Valley, resort spokeswoman Chris Martello said.

Gingerbread houses will be judged and awarded prizes in five categories, with an overall grand prize of a three-night stay at the resort. Winners will be announced at the Gingerbread Village grand opening on Nov. 23, and the house display will be open throughout the holidays, Martello said.

The resort also will hold two toy and gift drives for women and children at the shelter on Dec. 6 and 13, Martello said.
