Singing Legend Engelbert Humperdinck Comes to Palm Desert

World tours, a new album and a major competition are all the mix as Humperdinck visits the desert for two nights.

Engelbert Humperdinck is bringing his unmistakable voice back to the desert for two nights at the McCallum Theatre.

The 75-year-old is in the middle of another world tour, and says he always looks forward to playing Palm Desert.

“Its one of the places we always want to visit on the tour,” Humperdinck told patch via phone from his Los Angeles home, “We’ve always had a good reception here, and it’s one of my personal favorite haunts.”

With a career dating to the 1960s, posting a UK #1 in his first single, “Release Me”, Humperdinck is still going strong, and promises a show that fans old and new will enjoy.

“The show is tried and tested,” the singer said.  “We just got back from Manila, and Dubai where it was very well received.  We’ll be doing my standards, which my fans would be upset if I didn’t do, plus we’ll be adding some new material from the more recent albums.”

Humperdinck has put out an album virtually every year since his debut in 1967, and will keep that streak going with a new album scheduled to come out in late May.   Strangely, it’s an album he says he knows very little about.

“ I just finished my part on a new album, for Conehead Records UK.  It’ll be a collaboration work, called ‘Engelbert and the Girls’, but the fun part is I don’t know who the girls are, so it’ll be a surprise to me,” he laughed.  “The only one that I do know is a duet I did with my daughter, and I’m very proud of her, and so glad she’s on the album.”

The album’s release coincides with a major honor for the British star, as he’s been selected to sing the British entry in the prestigious annual Eurovision Song Contest.

“I’m so thrilled that the BBC chose me to represent Great Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest.   It’s not something we take lightly, so we’re hoping that with our song ‘Love Will Set You Free’ [editors note: video of the song available here] will bring the Eurovision trophy back to the UK.”

Humperdinck will perform the song, and many of his best known standards in two shows at the McCallum on April 13th and 14th.     Tickets and show info are available here .
